Celebrating the Big 6-0: Part 2 – The Big Bash!

I wanted my birthday party to be anything BUTT traditional.

I was a happy baby! And I’m still happy!

The theme of my party was: Black Tie Meets Desert Rat. Not exactly a theme you’d find on run-of-the-mill party invites so I had to create my own 😉

I created the image using AI. Technology is just awesome!

I wanted to throw a party that allowed my friends to dress up (hence, the black tie) butt only if they wanted to (hence, the desert rat). I also wanted to give everyone a chance to have fun with their attire by mixing the two themes. I LOVED how it turned out! So many people came wearing cowboy hats, black ties, sequins, and bandanas!

I’m getting ahead of myself… let’s start an hour before the party…

Ilene took Austin, Ziggy and Frankie to our other home where a trusted pet sitter was waiting there to spoil them. We figured it was best for the boyz if they passed on the party (and on the opportunity to sample a host of different delicious appetizers!)

Once the boyz were safely transported, my BFF’s worked together to bring the party to life! They decorated the front courtyard, Tinkerbell, the back patio and inside the house. Everything sang of happiness and sparkled with excitement!

The party began hours before the first guests arrived as my BFFs filled our home with laughter! From left to right: John, Kari, Dave, Ilene, Ian, me, McB, Jer, Jay, and Hannah.

Jay was my handsome cowboy! He found the sombrero – a real, Mexican dress sombrero! – at a thrift store. It weighed almost as much as me!

McB worked magic taking Christmas tree branches, ornaments, and party decor to create magical scenes around the house and yard.

The table decorations were a beautiful mix!
Our livingroom was decked out and ready to party!
Jay strung festive lights along our backyard. Ilene took photos.
The caterers arrived and McB captured a tray of beautiful berrytinis before they went out to guests. The birthday flowers were from our neighbors Gino and Joanne :)!

And soon… the party started!

Dave and his son (my nephew!) Ian manned the wine and beer bar. Dave wore his “Seinfeld Pirate” shirt causing many guests to assume he was a professional bartender!

The DJ began spinning my favorite tunes.

The caterers loaded and passed their trays with yummy horsdoeuvres.

And 65 guests began arriving.

Two of my favorite guests! Our neighbors George and Helen Cates! You’ve read about them in this blog before. I’m so happy they were able to attend!

We kicked off the festivities with a raucous game of To Tell The Truth…

To Tell The Truth was the longest running (22 years) game show on television!

In our version, we had 3 participants who regaled the audience with tales of how they had their spouse (accidentally) arrested.

Mark (another of Jay’s many cousins), Gino (our neighbor), and Suzanne (another neighbor) each told a story about how they somehow had their spouse arrested, patted down in public, handcuffed, and jailed.

The audience was stumped. They had to try to figure out which one of the 3 participants was actually telling the truth!

My guests were trying hard to decipher which one of the three were telling the truth. Tinkerbell tried to blend nonchalantly into the background at the party…

The audience fell for Gino’s story about his wife’s “hot crotch” (someday, maybe he’ll tell you the story) at the TSA checkpoint. They also fell for Suzanne’s story about a rental car that hadn’t been returned on time. What they didn’t fall for was the one TRUE story: Mark’s failure to pay a business tax on time (yes, his poor wife was actually arrested and jailed for a few hundred-dollar tax bill)!

We got a quick picture before the dancing started 🙂

After the game, the music and lights beckoned us to the dance floor!

Hannah helped the DJ spin some hits!
My neighbor Joanne and I danced to Joe Cocker!
Ilene and I danced to C’mon Eileen!
We danced with each other and then danced with everyone else in the circle!
And then we hugged and screamed in sheer happiness!

I just want to take a moment to thank McB (who managed to dance a little despite her broken foot) for thinking ahead and taking all these wonderful pictures! If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have been able to blog about the party. Thank you McB!

My decorator, my photographer, and my BFF: McB!

The party kept going… and going… until we literally couldn’t dance another step!

The DJ packed up his gear, we stuffed the leftover appetizers (no berrytinis left over!) into the fridge and crawled into our cozy beds/air mattresses for the evening.

The next day we awoke just a bit groggy. Even Tinkerbell was a little tired. Butt, she – and we! – had a good excuse: we had partied until the wee hours!

Butt, I’m not quite sure what excuse our boyz had for being tired…

Kari tried to gently wake Frankie…
Austin was sooooooo exhausted…
Ziggy could barely keep his eyes open!

What a FUN, FANTASTIC, GREAT, SUPERB, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY it was! Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with me and for all the cards and notes from everyone who couldn’t make it but took the time to wish me one helluva sexty birthday!!!!
