On the Road Again: Texas Bound!

May 21, 2023

We are officially “on the road again!” This time, we’re heading east to attend our eldest grandson’s high school graduation.

It seems like just a couple of years ago that Kaden was playing with puppets and entertaining us with extravagant theatrical productions featuring stuffed animals…

Kaden was great at thinking up productions and putting on shows!

Poof! He’s 18 and graduating from high school! And going to the high school prom…

Kaden’s mom, Alicia, joked that his prom date was his camera 😉

We’re so very proud of him! His future is bright: it will probably involve photography, drones, and ministry. Whatever path he chooses, he will do well. And… he will make the world a better place ❤️

Speaking of making the world a better place… yet another young man in our lives is growing up…

Was it one year ago or 10 years ago?

Our Oregon nephew Ben just went to his Junior Prom!

He’s got style, he’s got grace…

Seeing Ben and Kaden grow into accomplished young adults makes us feel so proud… and so happy.

As we were talking about the boys, Jay reminded me of one of our favorite quotes:

“The longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes.” – Frank Lloyd Wright

I guess it’s a sign you’re well-traveled when little things don’t rattle you…

Poor Tinkerbell… in New Mexico, a car in front of us shredded a large chunk of tire. Suddenly, a missile came hurtling at us. An 80mph projectile slammed into our left front bumper and peeled off a piece of Tink.

Ouch!

It made quite the noise and upset our sensitive boy Austin. Jay and I were fine… the event was no big deal. After seven years of bus travels, we’ve had some riveting interstate experiences: a large bird committing suicide on our windshield in Kyoshi, blowing a tire in Athena, and watching a tractor trailer smash our drivers‘ side mirror in Bridgette were much more traumatic 😉

Despite the damage (which we’ll have repaired when we return home), Tink took us safely to our first stop on this trip: a military RV park in El Paso.

I guess “tree hanging” is an issue at Ft Bliss.

We spent a not-so-blissful night at Ft Bliss, weathering gusty winds and booming thunderstorms.

The morning after the storms, Frankie took in the sights from his “kingly” perch in the bedroom.

Now, we’re off to Central Texas… a 6-hour drive. Next stop: Junction, TX!

These boys travel in style!
