The Last Day of School Calls for Buc-ees and Ice Cream!

May 29, 2023

Sometimes technology is great.

Sometimes it isn’t.

I’m using the free version of GoDaddy for this Blog so I certainly can’t – well, shouldn’t – complain when the site gets a glitch.

I’ve written this particular Post three times now… only to have it not “save”… hopefully – 🤞- the third time’s the charm!

So…. without further delay, let’s jump into… The Last Day of School!

We celebrated joyous freedom! And, yes, that’s a laptop Harley is throwing…(he caught it, whew!)

We picked up Harley, Raegan, and Amanda (Harley’s girlfriend), from their middle school. We celebrated with lots of whooping, hollering, and wild gesticulating (now, that’s a word we don’t use often enough)!

Our celebration was amplified by the enthusiastic honking of horns from the parade of yellow buses joyfully leaving the parking lot for the last time this school year. A line of teachers waved goodbye and saluted by lighting their celebratory bongs in relief.

I’m just kidding. I’m sure they waited until the buses were out of sight.

Our first stop: Alicia’s business.

Just one of the many area events Alicia organizes and runs.

Alicia provides marketing and event planning services to a number of businesses in Crosby, Baytown, and neighboring towns.

Can you tell Reagan loves the camera?

After dropping off Raegan, we hopped in Leap and drove to our next destination.

Older brother Quinn did what older brothers do: he tormented his younger brother in front of his girlfriend 😉

Our destination was the much-adored Texas institution called Buc-ee’s.

The founder of Buc-ee’s opened his first (of 44) stores in 1982 to commemorate my high school graduation.

Amanda and I were Buc-ee’s virgins. We had never been to a Buc-ee’s.

I’m sure most of you are Buc-ee’s virgins too. It’s okay. Nothing to be ashamed of. There’s always a first time for everyone.

Buc-eee’s is named after the founder’s dog, Buck, and the logo is inspired by the founder’s favorite toothpaste, which apparently had a beaver logo.

Buc-ee’s is like a gas station convenience store on steroids. It has 120 fueling stations…

Tractor trailers, specifically 18-wheelers, are not allowed in Buc-ee’s parking lots or fuel stations. Fortunately, Tinkerbell only has eight wheels, so we were able to fuel up before leaving town.

… and a long line of electric charging stations…

…and 1,000 parking spaces.

The largest Buc-ee’s is 66,335 square feet – the largest convenience store in the whole, wide world!

This particular Buc-ee’s was not that big.

It was only the size of, say, a Super Target.

It was big enough that we got lost trying to find the restrooms.

One of Buc-ee’s’ claims to fame is its spic-and span bathrooms. In fact, Buc-ee’s holds the award for the nation’s cleanest restrooms!

This particular Buc-ee’s did not disappoint.

Unfortunately, Jay was so taken with the cleanliness, he forgot to take a picture of the bathroom.

Imagine keeping 86 toilets clean, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Or, maybe you don’t want to imagine that.

Clean bathrooms, however, are not what we love most about Buc-ee’s.

Spear Building Group (SBG), Toller and Alicia’s business, supplies Buc-ee’s stores with custom-made, granite cutting boards in the shape of the state in which the Buc-ee’s store is located. It’s an all-hands-on-deck endeavor producing and delivering the cutting boards.

Harley, Amanda, Quinn, and Papa Jay posed with the handsome SBG cutting boards.

After our Buc-ee’s adventure, Leap the Jeep instinctively guided us to an ice cream shop.

Marble Slab ice cream was almost as good as Cold Stone Creamery.

All that sugary ice cream can make a person sleepy…

Harley resisted the temptation for “pay back” from the earlier torment Quinn inflicted upon him…

We then made our way back to the Spear Farm, dropped everyone off, and picked up the soon-to-be-high-school-graduate for his celebration dinner.

Kaden provided photography support to his school leading up to graduation. He had worked up an appetite!

We enjoyed a wonderful evening with Kaden, talking about his future plans and chowing down on fried onion petals, wings, steak, fries, and salad. The salad cancels out the fat from the fried foods. I read it on the internet, so I know it’s true 😉
